I am currently accepting appointments as Guardian ad litem for children in the 9th Judicial District which includes Gloucester, Middlesex and Mathews Counties. I recently moved to Deltaville, Virginia from Charlottesville, where I practiced family law for over thirty years. 


PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

From 1983 until 2016, Elizabeth P. Coughter practiced law in Charlottesville, Virginia.  She and her husband, Jeff, moved to Deltaville in May 2016 where they have maintained a weekend cottage for nearly two decades.  She received a B.A. from the University of Virginia and her law degree from the University of Richmond.  She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Virginia Supreme Court before entering the practice of law with MichieHamlett in Charlottesville. Her trial work has included a variety of civil matters with a concentration in family law, including divorce and custody cases, as well as, child support and other related matters.  Elizabeth also practices collaborative law in family law cases. During her career, Elizabeth has spoken on a variety of legal topics to statewide and national audiences and authored multiple articles.

She is a member of the Virginia State Bar and a former member of the National College of Trial Advocates and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. While a partner at MichieHamlett, she was listed in The Best Lawyers in America as well as Super Lawyers for many years.
